INVITATION International Youth Seminar: Unity in Diversity

The event was intended to give birth to the young generation who are able to be agent of change for the application of Islamic values which spread love.

Preface
Since its birth, Indonesian Islamic Students Movement (PMII) consistently asserted that the Islam and the Indonesia are a single entitiy that can not be separated. PMII build national spirit that is free from all forms of oppression and injustice. As well as uphold the Islamic principle that rahmatan lil'alamin.


But along the way, are often found in various businesses negates both entities. From the outside, many statements and questions about the compatibility of Islam with democratic values, human rights and gender. From inside, the nation is being eaten away by extremist groups who perform acts of terror in the name of Islam. These groups often re-argue and question that Islam is not the ideology of Indonesia. They spread slander and hatred.


PMII as an organization, very fortunate to have a father as a role model and source of inspiration as KH. Abdurrahman Wahid. Gus Dur has struggled in the front guard in defending the Islam and the Indonesia to stay in one frame. Gus Dur's struggle in guarding the Islamic and the Indonesiaan values, allowing him to be warriors of democracy, peace advocate and a hero of pluralism. Gus Dur's extraordinary footsteps has made activism of PMII more fresh and lively.

As the main defender of Islam Indonesia, PMII is modeled by Gus Dur in transforming the idea of democracy with the struggle for democratization in this republic. PMII really want to show the inclusive and tolerant face of Indonesian Islam, which uphold the values of human rights, gender equality. PMII very concerned about the issue of religious harmony in this earth, so that the forums of dialogue and cooperation among religions must be held continuously. Similarly, youth forums like this. Because the future of the nation and the world in the hands of young people.

Finally, we want to thank you for all those who have been conducting to succeed this international youth seminar : unity in diversity. Differences of opinion and views absolutely occur in the pluralistic state. Democracy wide opened space for dissents. Hopefully, we all can take an important lesson about the difference in this event. So that later we can live together in harmony. Bhinneka Tunggal Ika. Unity in diversity.
